Description: Underground emergency bunker, constructed in the 1950's by and for the federal government. Has facilities to support a few hundred people on self-contained status for at least two months, including 500,000 gallons of water storage, a waste-water treatment plant, hospital, a diesel-powered electricity plant, and information and communications equipment. Still in use. Hub of Federal Relocation Centers, a network of 96 sites in the Federal Arc (300 miles around DC), and part of the Continuity of Government plan. Alleged "second government" in residence here (duplicates of major federal departments including cabinet positions). Managed by FEMA.

Visitor Info: 19844 Blue Ridge Mountain Rd. That road, also designated VA Rt. 601, runs northeast-southwest along the mountain, roughly on the line between western Loudoun County and eastern Clarke County. Rt. 601 terminates at two major highways: Rt. 7 to the north and Rt. 50/17 to the south. Directional signs indicating Mount Weather EAC are located at both intersections. The FEMA facility is located approximately halfway along the road.
