ChemNuclear Systems, Inc. operates this nuclear waste site in Barnwell. It is one of only a few commercial radioactive waste disposal facilities in the country, Barnwell is considered one of the most active of these sites. 300 acres, 200+ employees. Opened in 1971, the site was operated for many years by a subsidiary of Waste Management Incorporated. Duratek Inc. now owns ChemNuclear.
