Highest Point in Ohio

| The highest point of land in Ohio is this hill, 1,549 feet above sea level. Structures at the top of the hill are former defense radar facilities, left from the period of 1951 to 1969, when, due to its relative altitude, the site was used as part of the nationwide NORAD system to detect enemy aircraft. Radar data from this site was relayed to an operation center in Battle Creek, Michigan, and then to the command bunker inside Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado. The base was converted into the Hi-Point Career Center, a civilian technical school, in 1974. |
