Description:	The region is dominated by a lengthy playa, known as the "largest flat place on earth." It attracts numerous unusual activities, including the annual Burning Man festival, amateur rocket launches, drive-by shooting ranges, and high speed automobile trials. The sound barrier was broken here by a wheeled vehicle, the English team's Thrust SSC, in 1997. At this altitude, the speed of sound is around 755 mph.
