Almost Heaven
| This is a residential development in central Idaho, established and promoted by the notorious survivalist Bo Gritz. Since 1994, a few hundred people have bought lots and built homes, and moved in trailers. Called a "covenant community", most, but not all its denizens share an interest in self-sufficiency, the Bible, and the basic freedoms and independence spelled out in the United States constitution. Gritz himself though is based primarily in Sandy Valley, Nevada (where in 1998 he was found wounded by the side of a highway after a failed suicide attempt). |

| 10 miles from Kamiah, on the Nez Perce Indian reservation. A narrow paved road heads up into the mountains, and there are signs for Almost Heaven and Almost Heaven II. |
