Description: A complex of about ten small mines that have been turned into rustic residences. Owned, and in most cases excavated, by Dugout Dick Zimmerman, who has been working the mines since 1948. He has become a bit of a celebrity, after being featured in national news stories and as one of the tenacious visionaries in David Isay's book Holding On. Each room is uniquely furnished, and rents for around $5.00 a night. Pets are welcome, as long as they get along with the goat.

Visitor Info: 19 miles south of the town of Salmon, on Highway 93, is the Rattlesnake Creek Bridge, which crosses the Salmon River. Cross the bridge and turn south, and the first of the cluster of buildings are soon visible. The main complex is around the bend.
