Description:	At 279,270 acres, Fort Stewart is the largest Army installation east of the Mississippi River. Troops train on the installations tank, field artillery, helicopter gunnery, and small arms ranges. Around 15,500 soldiers are stationed at this base near the Georgia coast, with an additional 3,500 civilian employees. Air support is provided by Hunter Army Airfield, a 5,400 acre airbase with the Army's longest runway, located near Savannah, eight miles from Fort Stewart.
