Description: The Port of San Francisco owns the piers and port areas in Mission Bay and a total of 1,000 acres of shoreline, and numerous buildings, from Fisherman's Wharf to India Basin, near Hunters Point. The main maintenance shops for the Port properties are located in a warehouse on Pier 50, at the Mission Rock Terminal. Most of the big gray transport ships docked along the shores of San Francisco, Oakland and Alameda (as well as many in the Mothball Fleet in Suisun Bay) are part of the federal fleet of the Maritime Administration (MARAD), a division of the Department of Transportation, and are maintained in a state of    readiness to depart within 72 hours notice for military deployments and national emergencies. A MARAD Transport ship is usually docked at the Mission Rock Terminal.
