The mothball fleet is said to be the largest collection of ships on the Pacific Ocean. Some of the fleet will be scrapped, but some of them are part of a reserve military fleet administered by the Department of Transportation's maritime administration.

Lake Herman Road (reachable from the east end of East 2nd Street in Benecia, as well as an exit off Interstate 680) heads southeast to the gate of the Mothball Fleet access road. The automatic gate has a phone for the administration office, but it's best to make arrangements for visiting the fleet ahead of time.
