Home port for 60 of the 98 Navy ships that port in San Diego area, the San Diego Naval Station is the largest port for the Pacific Fleet. It is the workplace for 4,000 people, in addition to the more than 40,000 people who serve on the ships that are ported here. The thousand acre base, located on the east side of San Diego Bay, has 12 miles of berthing space.
