Description: More than 20 telescopes are clustered at the summit of Kitt Peak, from radio telescopes to solar telescopes. It is the location of the 3.8 meter National Optical Astronomy Observatory Mayall telescope, one of the world's largest, and the unusual McMath solar telescope, which projects an image of the sun using a 500-foot long shaft that extends deep underground. Kitt Peak is funded by the National Science Foundation and operated by a consortium of Universities.
